Everything I have read today points to one thing: Obama sucks ass.
Seriously. Republican, Democrat, Independent. Everything. They can disagree about everything else except that. Obama. Sucks. Ass.
He's a terrible president, he will be doomed to a Grant-like existence in history, he has let down the nation and possibly the universe, but not being just like Bush in pushing legislation through congress.
I am supremely tired of hearing about how much Obama sucks ass. He has done good things that get lost in the legislative bullshit going on in the House and Senate. Health care? Really? You really thought we would get health care legislation done? Ever? Oh honey, sit down, I have a call for you. It's from reality. That was never going to happen. Hate to burst your bubble.
Can he fix the unemployment and economic mess we are in? Sure, if he can get a New New Deal passed. Can he? No. No chance. The Republicans would never never let that happen.
In short, does Obama suck? Sure, to some people. Obama also inherited an impossible situation at the worst possible time. He got a country that is on the verge of tearing itself apart over him, where he faces the extremely real possibility of being shot every time he goes out in public. He got a Democratic majority that is paralysed with fear over the idea of pissing people off. Frankly, there are times I'm surprised he hasn't pulled a Palin and said, "Enough of this bullshit, fix it on your own, you morons."
Obama, not so much sucking ass. Unrealistic expectations because he isn't Bush? Abound. Because of that his actual good works get lost? Definitely.
Fail. This whole thing is fail.

New Rule for Tea Baggers

So, apparently at your little "Die-In" rally in DC some of you lovely people boo-ed FDR.

Oh Sarah. Honestly, sweety, you need to go away. And please stop talking about "Climategate". Aside from the fact that is such a stupid name for a non-gate, the idea of someone with the IQ of my kitten talking about it is absurd.
Honey, I'm not a scientist, but I am a thinking human. My brain works a whole 90% of the time (the other 10% of the time it is dazzled by shiny things and David Tennet). I'm not sure you're hits the 50% mark on a regular basis. I have come to this conclusion because I have read what you have said about "Climategate" and then read the emails. Then read about scientific testing because, you know, if I'm going to judge I should know what I'm talking about. And came to the conclusion that this really is a non-deal. You know, not like you. I can't decide if you really believe the insane things you state, or if you're just parroting things, but either way you do need to go home and leave the heavy lifting to people who actually can lift. Or in this case think.
This is hardly the biggest thing that has bugged me about Palin recently, but it is a symptom of the big picture. She feels that she is somehow not only qualified to make comments on things way above her pay grade, but she also seems to feel that she should. That people expect her to. Now don't get me wrong, I expect her to, because she is an idiot and she's really funny when she talks. But I also don't want her convincing people to believe the insane things she believes in.
The best thing that could happen for us would be if the Tea Party Party forms and runs her in 2012 (or 2010, whatever). People would get a long term view of how stump dumb she is and split the GOP, and Bob's your Uncle, Dems win it. Yay!!
I know, it won't be quite that easy, but you get where I'm going. She will be polarizing, and we could make out on top if that happens.

Meeting in the middle

Recently I started talking to my cousins on Facebook. We haven't talked in years, and so it's been really cool catching up and rediscovering each other as adults and parents.
One of my cousins and I have found quite a bit in common, we're both mothers of children with medical problems and food allergies, we're both into organics, we're both into Christmas music in the fall (shut up, there's nothing wrong with that).
She's also a member of the Fox Nation, believes that the healthcare reform will pay for abortions and start death panels, that vaccines cause autism, etc.
I am not.
If she knew that I was a liberal pagan there is a good chance she may not talk to me again. The fact that I'm a single mom gets a pass only because I was married once. We found a middle ground, and get along pretty well,yet there it is. That strain of always trying to not say the wrong thing because that could be it. No more friendship or sharing or mom talk.
It makes me sad that our being friends on Facebook depends on me never mentioning anything I actually think about anything important. Never disagreeing, never providing an opposing view. If I did I would be teh evil and that would be it.
If this sounds familiar, it should. It happens every day, where conservative talking heads vilify people for not agreeing with them, where friendships are broken over ideologies, where families stop talking because of how someone voted. There is no middle ground anymore. And the middle ground we get to is one person refusing to talk to the other simply to save the friendship/family/news show.
If we can't find an actual middle ground where views can be presented without immediate reactionary screaming and finger pointing :cough:beck:cough: then we may find a terrible split in the country of the wingnuts from the rest of us. Who knows, it may be for the best if that all wander up to Alaska or something and form their own country, but I would rather see us actually try to work things out first.
I'd really hate to lose a family member to Alaska because of this.

The lunatics are in the yard

We all knew it was only a matter of time before someone got hurt by the anti-healthcare loonies. And now it looks like they might have assaulted a freshman Congressman. And that isn't counting the death threats others are getting.
Honestly, death threats.
Over health care.
Over being Democrat. How insane is that? How off the wall? How crazy do you have to be where that makes sense?
Welcome to the new GOP base, people who threaten to kill others over healthcare. Over attending town hall meetings. Over policy changes that help people.

1) Orly, in LOL Cat your name means "Oh Really?", and since I find myself saying that over and over again when I hear you speak I'll go with it, but it is distracting.
2) I'm sorry, what part of the country is that accent from? Yeah, that's what I though. Hows about not lecturing people on US law.
3) Speaking of which, you are a lawyer, dentist, real estate agent. How the hell is that working out for you?

Thank you to Instaputz for letting us all know that World Net Daily has lost their ever loving minds and published a copy of the Kenyan "Birth Certificate" of Barak Obama. When Little Green Foorballs says it's a fake, it probably is. When Karl "Turd blossom" Rove says it is a fake, it probably is.
And when one of your nutball "Birthers" shoots our president because of your fear mongering I hope someone brings you down.

Honestly, you are NOT middle of the road

Sometimes, as I wander around the internet, I come across people screaming and yelling that Obama is a far right conservative, just like McCain. I love it when people do this, because they think they are middle of the road, or possibly left-leaning. They are a whole lot closer to the left's version of those wingnuts who thought Bush was too liberal. I just hope they don't turn into our TeaBaggers.

Dead fish do what?

When I heard my beloved Evita Palin quit I almost came back online to blog about it, despite my promise to myself to stay offline. So instead I called my brother, told him, and we both had a good laugh about it.
We mainly laughed about how wildly incoherent that speech was. Did you listen to it? Any of it? It was like a stream of consciousness essay written by a high school freshman. Not only did she do something completely stupid, but she did it in the worst possible way. I keep wondering if she has had some kind of breakdown up there in Alaska. That is why she keeps believing that the media is attacking her family, not that she keeps dragging her family into the spotlight. Maybe she does need a rest, because she is starting to lose what little grip on reality she had.
And why quit? From a political perspective it was suicide. The only people who will follow her now are the devoted 21% wing nut crowd, everyone else is now convinced she actually is the nutcase we all thought she might be. There is a small chance that she realized that she isn't just bad at being a governor and politician, but she is absolutely terrible at it and quit because of that. But I doubt it.
What ever the reason the fact remains that it was a stupid move on her part. And I applaud her because it means that we get to keep seeing her being weird an incoherent and not have to worry about the people of Alaska being screwed over.

Filibuster proof?

The Minnesota Supreme Court has offically declared Frankin the Senate race winner. Which means that if everyone votes on party lines the Dems are now filibuster proof. Right? I think. The whole idea of filibuster proof is kind of weird to me, mainly because I don't really understand it.
Anyway, I suppose this means that the healthcare bill could pass the Senate now. So that is a ray of sunshine.

Who is speaking for the Republican Party?

According to a new Gallop poll, 52% of Americans don't know.

52%? Are you kidding? Half of the country has no idea who is speaking for the GOP. They don't know if it's Newt, or Steele, or Evita, or freaking bigfoot.
Guys, pull it together. It's kind of weird to watch the GOP fall apart like this. As much as I bitch about them, we do need them.

I have to say, I have been enjoying this whole little high school drama between Palin and the GOP Fundraising Dinner. And Palin stealing Newt's speech (seriously, word for word. The sheer balls of that act! Wow!)
Apparently the self-styled Evita is getting on the nerves of the GOP as much as she gets on the nerves of the rest of us. As it is becoming more and more apparent to the GOP leadership that Palin is serious about a run for the presidency in 2012, they are becoming more and more uncomfortable with the idea of this woman being the voice of their party. When Newt is the lesser of two evils, you know that other choice was pretty freaking bad.
The Hill has an interesting piece on just how much the GOP seems to be regretting bringing Palin into the spotlight. While part of the GOP base wants her to run it looks like they have written her off. She just doesn't have the money and her PAC has stalled.
I can't decide if I would like to see her run or not. Obviously, I would have a LOT more to talk about if she did. The woman is a trainwreck. And Obama would win handily if they ran her. He'd have to kill and eat a puppy on camera to lose. On the other hand, she does pander to the lowest scum in the GOP, and if we get them going again god only know what they will do next.

I could not even make this crap up. Do you believe the audacity? This, this is why the GOP is failing, because they are so out of it that a man that spouts racist propoganda is their rising sun.

Dear GOP

I know that "book learning" isn't your strongest point, however, and I say this with love, empathy doesn't mean what you think it means.
Empathy isn't a liberal code word. It doesn't mean "kill whitey" or whatever else you seem to think.
It's actually a quality that we humans treasure. Shocking, I know, but there you go.
Please stop beating the English language into the gound. Just because it is changable doesn't mean you can abuse it like this.

Dick Chaney sure has been all over these past few weeks hasn't? Showing up here there and everywhere defending this policy decision and that stretching of our country's moral fabric.

Randomness!

Yesterday was Mother's Day, which means it was Mercer Fest here in Bucks County. And that means the Give and Take Jugglers! I love juggling, and the Give and Take Jugglers are a small troop here in SE PA that have been operating for decades now. My brother and I watched them when we were little, and obviously the line up has changed, but they are still great. Yesterday was a real treat, the original two performers (and founders) performed. They are older than dirt but still fantastic.
You know, people keep talking about how we need to make it illegal to text and drive. Dude, I can barely text while sitting on my couch (stupid small keys), much less driving. How do people even do that?
President Obama is pretty funny. Is there anything that guy can't do?

Bowing out

Can I just say how silly it is to see the wingnuts trying to debate protocol regarding Pres. Obama's bow to the Saudi king? These people wouldn't know a salad fork from a regular fork and they are qualified to say what is the correct way to greet a king?
And they are trying to say the guy who had it right is Bush? The man who wanted to throw the Queen of England a BBQ. And who had to be convinced that he had to wear a tux to his state dinner with her.
